Shikamaru watched as the two genin battled it out, and he simply yawned as the other boy who was not fighting made explosive copies of himself, seding them into the fray. He frowned at the girl who seemed to be having anger problems and turned his attention to the silver haired boy before looking at their sensei.
"What team is this?" He asked lazily, stuffing his hands in his pockets, refusing to yawn again as he studied the two fighting more closely than before. He had been asked to watch some teams battle, and, as Furea had instructed, return any special information that he found, such as personalized jutsu. The only thing he saw was that the serious one was good with explosives, the angry girl was a fire user, and the silver haired boy was lazy and ignorant.
"Well... That's all I had to do I guess..." He said, walking through the field; he had left the Hokage's office only minutes ago with the small reward of being able to do as he pleased for the rest of the day. Sighing in relaxation, he layed back into the grass, and began watching the clouds drift on by.

Naoko passed swiftly through the village, moving in between people as if it were a simple dance. She took long strides, and her black knee length skirt flapped against her legs and white shorts due to the slits up the sides. Her green eyes glanced around, unfocused. Nothing was of interest today, no missions, no news. Passing all the shops and homes, she stole quick glances towards the fields. The looked so tempting today... It wouldn't hurt to relax for a little while, would it?
Moving to the grassy plains, she smiled, inhaling deeply. Nothing was ever calm and peaceful like this for her. She only ever got hectic and fast paced. The slim girl walked some more, eyeing the flora and such happily. She had no idea that the town could be so... Pleasent. A bright grin crossed her pale pink lips, and she turned her head up to the sky, watching the clouds for a moment. Naoko was still walking, and she brought her head back down when something metallic reflected the sun's glare back at her.
Glancing down the field, her green eyes soon found themselves staring at a boy, about her age, who was just laying there. It surprised her, and she carefully moved closer, silently, so not to disturb him. She was only a few yards way, and was trying to see whether the Chuunin was asleep or not. A pink flower beside him, caught her eye, and she gazed longingly at it. If he didn't react badly to her in a few minutes, or not at all, she would try to get the flore. If he did, she'd run away quickly, hiding in the trees.
"...Hello..." Naoko whispered, barely loud enough to be heard at the distance. If he was awake, he'd have to be deaf not to hear her, since the only other sound was the wind rustling the trees. If he was sleeping, he shouldn't be bothered. She took a few more steps, then stopped, waiting.

"Hm?" Shikamaru frowned as he heard a small voice and he propped himself up on his elbow, looking around for the source of the noise. His onyx eyes landed on a girl around his age and he plopped back onto the grass again, sighing deeply and glaring softly up at the sky. Great... A girl. How troublesome... He thought, as a nice breeze blew through the large field, and he let out a groan as he realized that his vest had fallen off of the branch he had hung it on. He got to his feet with a grunt of annoyance, picked up the vest and looked at Naoko.
"So. Who are you?" He asked casually, putting his vest back on.

Naoko watched the boy carefully, her eyes studying him quickly. Dark brown hair tied up into a spikey ponytail, dark brown eyes, taller than her... He seemed like a perfectly normal person. Lucky. She wasn't surprised by him being awake, even though his peaceful aura had been decieving. Noticing his frown as well, she wondered what she had done wrong.
Her bright eyes were locked on the Chuunin, and she tilted her head to the side, her long, dark chocolate colored locks falling over her bare shoulders and back. Her halter top did very little for keeping her bony shoulders from being noticible, but nothing really hid them. The lightening user smiled faintly as he put his vest back on, even though he seemed annoyed.
"Naoko. Kaiki Naoko... And you?" she asked, her voice neutral, and her eyes curious. The boy appeared to be quite irritated, and giving him a straight answer might keep him from being too agitated. Taking the pink ribbon from around her wrist, she quickly put her hair up into a high ponytail, ending just past her shoulders. It was relatively warm, and this kept most of her hair from vexing her.

"Shikamaru... Nara Shikamaru." He replied simply, stuffing his hands in his pockets, observing her quietly as he stood. She seemed rather thin, underweight, as if she hadn't eaten in days, and he noticed how abnormally straight her dark hair was. And her eyes... Bright green, but they seemed... Vacant somehow, as if she was daydreaming. He mirrored her expression as she put her hair up and he frowned slightly once more, his onyx eyes troubled. How could someone her age be so thin?
"You from around here? I don't think I've ever seen you before."

Naoko nodded, her eyes slightly widening. She had heard of this boy before, another person with a strangly high I.Q. She smiled lightly, her eyes washing over him again. Why hadn't she recognized him? He had become a popular name after the Chuunin exams, most knowing him as the lazy boy with shadows. The young kunochi stopped studying him, as she noticed that he did the same with her. Her eyes instead focused on his, being curious and empty at the same time.
"Nice to meet you." she spoke with a delicate voice, a larger smile taking to her pale pink lips. The question he asked made her think for a good answer.
"Yes, I'm from Konoha. I'm not well known as I tend to try to stay in the shadows, and I take missions frequently." Naoko said, her eyes falling to the grass by her feet. She thought carefully before continuing. "I'm not the kind of person people want to see. I don't blame them." she whispered, her leaf colored eyes glancing up to meet his again, praying that he wouldn't have heard that, or would ignore it. After all her careful thinking, her heart got the better of her and spoke for her.
Her porcelain face was serene as she looked up to his more tanned one, waiting for any reaction or movement.

"In the shadows, huh?" Shikamaru laughed silently as his eyes locked onto the jounin, and he smirked slightly. He lazilly scratched his head before stretching, yawning widely, closing his eyes as he did. Had she smiled? He laughed quietly at the thought of a girl as seemingly morbid as her smiling, before he realized how hungry he was. I'm not the kind of person people want to see. I don't blame them. The Nara frowned at this, his face troubled slightly, but he let it pass. He had a strong feeling that the jounin would not want him to pry at that comment. His stomach growled and he sighed.
"Hey. Want to go get a bite to eat?"

Naoko gave a short, forced laugh, realizing the humor. Shadow user. A smirk crept steathily onto her face, not too large to notice at a first glance. He did live up to the rumors she had heard it appeared, being quite lazy and tired. Her green eyes flashed up to look at the sky once more, then back to Shikamaru. For being so young, he was already past her in height. Her frame did seem small compared to most men anyways, so it didn't bother her too much.
"...Sure..." she said slowly, eyeing him carefully. The Nara kid had frowned just before asking her to join him with eating, and she was pretty sure that it was over her last comment. A frown came to her face as well, and she crossed her arms over her stomach, taking another step towards him. Naoko copied what Shikamaru had done, and sighed, her shoulders sagging. This might be a bit awkward now.

"So, where would you like to go?" Shikamaru yawned, stretching again before starting towards town, dragging his feet slightly as he went. He stopped, looking over his shoulder and shooting her his famous dashing, lazy smile as he waited for her to follow. His eyes were now locked on hers, glinting with intrest... How had he not known about her before? He should of had run into her once or twice, but he had no recolection of any incounters with this girl.

"Anywhere sounds fine. I'm not very picky..." Naoko replied, thinking about all the places to eat. Ichiraku and some others ran through her mind, but she'd let him choose since she liked most any of the resteraunts and diners in Konoha. She watched as he moved away, standing for a moment in case of any tricks. Weird. She knew his sensei from a Jounin meeting once, and he had complained about the laziness of this boy. She gave a small grin back at him, following swiftly and gracefully. Shikamaru's eyes had shown some emotion, but she moved to fast to understand it.
The black clad kunochi walked in step with the Nara boy, at his slow and lazy pace, her arms hanging loosely at her sides. Her porcelain face had a tiny smile fixed on it, and she stared up into the sky, almost forgetting everything around her.

"Ichiraku it is then..." He decided with a slight nod, stuffing his hands into his pockets, yawning again as she walked. It would take a while to get there, but he wasn't in any rush, and he was still dragging his feet.
"So. What would you like?"

"Sounds good," Naoko said, nodding her head in agreement. Her green eyes sparkled, and she smirked when she saw him yawn again. Someone must be very tired or rather lazy. Neither is that great, but he seemed like a very nice person, so she set that aside. Raising a hand, she flicked her bangs out of her eyes, letting them rest over them.
"Any type of ramen. Smallest size possible... I don't eat much." She stated, eyeing him carefully. He asked her what she wanted, but what were his intentions behind the question? Avoiding problems in the future, she decided to ask him something. "What do you normally get at Ichiraku?"
Walking slowly on, matching his pace, Naoko eyed him suspiciously. "Why have I not seen or talked to you more? We've been in the same village for the past years, but I've only seen you a few times before. And this is the first time I've talked to you..." Such a small town should mean that most people knew each other, had seen each other, had spoken with each other.

"Me? Nothing normally... Tea is good enough. I'm not hungry anyway. I just ate a while back with Chouji..." Shikamaru replied, stiffling another yawn as he peered sideways at her. He frowned as she began to question him and he laughed lightly. "Playing twenty questions are we?"
He ignored the suspicious look she was getting and he thought for a moment. She was right. He had only seen her a couple of times and this was the first time they had met. Or course, Furea had had him running all over the place and even to Suna... He sighed as he remembered his day in the Sand Village.
"I haven't been around for a while.. Just got back from the Sand Village."

Naoko nodded towards him, also a tea drinker. She didn’t order it anywhere, but made it at ‘home’. Her leaf green eyes darted to the sky for a moment, then back to him. Chouji..? Why was that name familiar? Most likely she had heard about it from their sensei, who always seemed to have a cigarette in his mouth. Her eyes widened slightly and a faint pink blush rose to her cheeks at the Nara’s comment. Inwardly, she scolded herself. When was the last time she ever blushed?
“Not exactly, Shikamaru, not exactly.” Her voice stated calmly, her eyes now focused in front of her. The young teen silently wondered what might be going on inside the Chuunin’s mind, and smiled sadly. This was quite awkward. Normally she wouldn’t have approached the fields, let alone speak to a stranger. Her brother must be up in Heaven, plotting this carefully, wanting to see her squirm since he couldn't be here in person to make embarassing comments.
A small jolt of awareness ran through her at the mention of the Sand Village. She knew that place well, Gaara the Kazekage, his sister Temari and his brother… Kankuro. Naoko bit her lip, drawing a little blood, remembering the last time she saw him and the rest of his family. Not the best time ever. She moved on normally, letting her bottom lip free and walking stiffly.
“An interesting place. I’m assuming a mission of sorts?” she knew that this boy was normally the guide for the Kazekage’s sister, Temari, since she had witnessed him entering the Hokage’s tower one day with her. And she also had heard Tsunade talking about it once with Shizune on her way out. Her bright green eyes returned to Shikamaru, empty, like the rest of her expression. She was determined not to let this bother her, but she already felt her appetite slip away.
